The different regions of Mallorca

Mallorca, the biggest of the Balearic Islands in Spain, with over 300 days of sunshine per year is more diverse than you might think. Divided into different regions, each with its own character and attractions, the island never fails to surprise. Let’s discover the different corners of Mallorca together!

Palma

Starting with Palma, the island’s vibrant capital hosting a mix of history and modernity. The impressive Gothic cathedral, La Seu, and the historic Old Town display rich cultural heritage, while chic restaurants, endless shopping possibilities and a lively nightlife add a contemporary flair. Palma is a place that is bustling all year round and even though it gets calmer in winter, there is still plenty to discover and to do.

Southwest of Mallorca

Moving on to the Southwest of the island you find areas like Cala Mayor, Illetas and Portals Nous. All these regions are located right by the sea but with a more residential touch and yet close to Palma. Illetas enchants with its beautiful beaches, while Portals Nous impresses with a more exclusive atmosphere featuring its fashionable port with many luxurious boutiques and restaurants. In contrary Costa d’en Blanes and Bendinat are ideal for families with well renowned schools close by and a more tranquil vibe. For party lovers the areas of Palmanova and Magaluf might be the right fit with a vibrant and lively nightlife scene. Santa Ponsa is fantastic for golf enthusiasts and Port Andratx offers a low key luxurious ambience. As you can see there is something for everyone in the Southwest of the island.

Northwest of Mallorca

In the Northwest of Mallorca lies the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This mountainous region features breathtaking landscapes and charming villages like Valldemossa and Deià. When you drive up the winding roads into the Tramuntana mountains and then arrive in the villages of Valdemossa and Deia, it will feel like a completely different Mallorca. Both villages are home to many celebrities like the actor Michael Douglas or the famous writer Robert Graves. The Northwest is ideal for any kind of outdoor actives and impresses with an endless choice of hikes and is also popular amongst cyclists.

West of Mallorca

On the West coast of Mallorca in the lovely areas of Port de Soller and Soller you can enjoy both – breathtaking sea views and incredible mountain views combined with a remaining traditional Majorcan charm.

North of Mallorca

Onto the North of Mallorca where the town of Pollensa captivates with its charm, ancient streets and rich history. Just a short drive away Port of Pollensa is situated, one of the largest bays in the North coast of Mallorca. If you are discovering the North of the island do not miss out on the opportunity to drive up to Cap de Formentor, one of the main attractions on the island and the perfect spot to watch mesmerizing sunsets. Not forgetting the seaside resort of Alcudia, popular with tourists and known for Playa de Muro, the largest sand beach in Mallorca making it the ideal spot for families.

Northeast of Mallorca

The Northeast offers a quieter and more authentic ambiance, with charming towns like Arta and Capdepera, alongside stunning natural beauty and a slower pace of life.

East of Mallorca

Meanwhile the East coast of Mallorca is especially famous for its beautiful beaches and secluded coves, attracting sun-seekers and water sports enthusiasts. Some of the most mesmerizing coves of Mallorca are located here like Cala Romantica or Cala Mendia which enchant with their crystal clear water and different shades of blue. Cala d’Or and Cala Millor are among the popular resort areas in this region – lively during summer months and quiet during winter.

Southeast of Mallorca

When thinking about the South east of Mallorca there is one thing in particular that comes to our mind and that are the beaches. Starting with the most famous one which is Es Trenc, known for it’s long sandy beach and crystal clear water, followed by famous coves like Calo des Moro and Cala Almunia which are so busy during the summer months that we actually recommend to visit them in spring or fall instead. This region is also know for its tranquil places like Felantix, Santanyi or Campos with rural settings and authentic lifestyle.

Central Mallorca

The island’s central region around the villages of Montuiri, Algaida and Sineu showcases a more rustic and traditional side of Mallorca, with agricultural landscapes, cozy villages, and local markets that give an authentic experience.
